Hot Yoga!

So I have not started yet-- however I am going to try Hot Yoga!
I have definitely heard amazing things and am trying to get myself into serious shape-- also hot yoga, also known as Bikram Yoga encompasses poses/stretches, also known as asanas, that help to improve one's overall emotional, spiritual, and physical well-being as well as help one to sit in meditation for long periods of time. Some of the benefits are also said to include: flexibility, weight loss, stress relief, boost your immune system, help with aches, injuries, and arthritis, and increased athletic performance

I am so, so excited to find a location to do so, however I would love your help on some key items:
1) What to Wear?
Many women where sports bras, however let's face it: I am just not in that kind of shape to be comfortable.
2) What Kind of Mat to Get?
I do not want to spend a lot at all. Also, I have heard one's with a sticky bottom are best because if not, it will move?
3) Water
How much water should I consume before/ after!? I am so bad at drinking the daily amount of water I should and being that you sweat SO much during hot yoga, I want to make sure I am not going to faint or anything
4) Have you tried Hot Yoga?
What did YOU think!?

  1. I have done hot yoga - it feels awesome! Here are some of my tips :)

Wear what you are comfortable in - but make sure it is light and there isn't much of it. I am totally the same as you - I need more than just a bra. I usually wear a light tshirt and shorts. Nothing heavy. You will SWEAT! Your fingers sweat - by the time you are done, you will be soaked - so just wear something that won't feel too uncomfortable stuck to your body.

I just have a regular yoga mat - mine is a bit bumpy and sticky. Like I mention, you sweat. Bring a towel - I usually bring a big one (many people lay it along their entire mat!) and a small one to wipe your face.

Drink a TON of water before and after - as much as you can.

Take it VERY slow your first time. My friend told this to me and I still went to quick. The first time I went I got soo dizzy I had to sit out for half of the standing poses. So take it slow. If you need to just stand during a pose or two - do it. When you stand up straight after a pose, go very slow. The second time I went much slower and was able to get through the entire session.

    Enjoy!!
